Volunteer: Doggy Day Out

You must complete 2 opportunities of on site dog walking before signing up for doggy day out

Doggy Day Out is a special volunteer opportunity that gives our shelter dogs a chance to explore the world outside the shelter, while helping them meet potential adopters. Volunteers will meet at the shelter and pick up a dog to take out for the day on a fun outing. You’re welcome to walk Main Street, visit the farmers market or local events, or explore popular outdoor spots like Teton Canyon or Bates Boat Ramp. We’ll provide guidance on each dog’s comfort level with people, dogs, and various environments to help you choose the best adventure for your companion. Each dog will wear an “Adopt Me” vest and you’ll be given a short bio to share with anyone interested in learning more. These outings help increase the visibility of our adoptable dogs and can make all the difference in connecting them with their future families. We’re incredibly grateful to our volunteers who give their time, energy, and love to help our animals feel seen, loved, and hopeful. Your participation is essential in helping us find homes for every dog in our care.

Rules and Requirements:

·         Volunteers must be 21 years or older to take a dog out on their own.

·         Dogs must always remain on leash and in a secure harness unless in a fully fenced-in area.

·         While driving, windows must remain up or the dog must be secured with a harness and leash.

·         All dogs participating in Doggy Day Out are fully vaccinated and altered.

·         If you’d like your own dog to join the outing, the shelter dog and your dog must meet and be approved prior to departure. Your dog must also be up to date on vaccinations.

Thank you so much for choosing to spend time with our dogs. We are so excited to welcome you and introduce you to our ready, loving, and hopeful pups waiting to find their forever homes.

Every evening before we leave, we like to treat our canine friends to something special to help them relax. These treats include Kongs filled with a delicious peanut butter mixture or frozen snacks we call "pupsicles." Licking is an excellent stress reliever for dogs, and these treats provide a calming distraction as we quietly leave for the night, ensuring a peaceful rest for everyone. We typically prepare these treats twice a week.
